A Place To Savour Seafood Porridges And Fish Noodles

Perak Lane Fish Head Bee Hoon is a place that brings back good old memories. Tucked in Jelutong, this is a family business that has been operating for over 60 years and it’s probably one of those places that your parents can relate to. But in case you and your parents haven’t figure out this place and don’t know what to order, fret not to hop along with us as we uncover some of their must-try dishes!

Retaining a very traditional way of cooking, Perak Lane Fish Head Been Hoon deserves respect for its consistent charcoal-cooked dishes. While many other places have given up on using charcoal, the owners here have kept the tradition going and a sip of the soup explains why. Slow-cooked over a charcoal stove, the Whole Crab Porridge and Prawn Porridge are the first to catch our attention.

The essence of the dish is undoubtedly the soup itself. Enriched with umami flavours from the various seafood and fried garlic, the prawns in the Prawn Porridge adds another touch of sweetness to the dish. Not to mention, their prawns are some of the biggest we’ve seen before! Additionally, if you’re lucky enough, try out their Crab Porridge that comes with a fresh whole crab!

On the other side, we’ve also tried their noodle dishes too! Topped generously with fried fish and pork innards such as liver, kidney and large intestine, this is a feast to enjoy. Offering various textures and flavours, we chose Maggi noodles as our base. However, you can also opt for Porridge, Bee Hoon or Mee Suah. Apart from that, if you’re going for a more subtle dish, fret not to try their Squid Bee Hoon!
