Now that aside, let’s take a quick detour from the usual topic and talk about a zero-waste lifestyle. Did you guys know that there’s a zero-waste grocer right here in Penang itself? This grocer is called OWL, located in Tanjung Bungah.

Essentially, the zero waste lifestyle prioritizes on waste prevention and at the same time, the reuse of products until it reaches the optimum level of consumption. When it comes to a zero-waste lifestyle, there are plenty of ways to adapt it. Ditching plastic packaging, minimizing food waste, avoid using potentially toxic styrofoam, and many more are great ways to adapt to the new lifestyle.

In addition, OWL lets us refill grocery items too just by bringing our own container and we can refill as much as we need. This way itself is excellent in reducing the use of unnecessary plastic packaging.

OWL is a zero-waste bulk store established by two humble founders, Jo and Viviene. Adapting to a new zero-waste lifestyle isn’t easy but to think about it, it allows us to get closer to Nature and appreciate ‘real’ things. Hence, OWL has a rather simple quaint interior, just like its tagline, Back To Basics.
