Get Ready For The Return Of Penang Hill Festival 2023!

To those wondering about the Penang Hill Festival, it was first held back in 2018 and was put on hold in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2022, the festival resumed for its 3rd edition, and this year, the 4th. The Penang Hill Festival is an annual event that aims to promote and bring about greater awareness of Penang Hill’s nature, history and cultural heritage through various programs. There are fun-filled yet educational activities ranging from insightful talks to hands-on workshops and more.

What makes this year’s festival special is that it is also to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill Railway which first operated in 1923.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon said: “The annual festival offers visitors and locals a glimpse of Penang Hill’s uniqueness from its century-old railway, to its lush greenery and rich biodiversity that was certified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site in 2021.

Penang Hill Festival’s signature event, “Music on the Hill – East Meets West”, is happening on 22nd July 2023 featuring Musica Sinfonietta Penang, a prominent homegrown orchestra. This event will feature talented local musicians playing tunes from both the East and the West and the best part; it’s complemented by the natural orchestra sung by the “inhabitants” of Penang Hill.
