Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) has announced the ferry terminals at Raja Tun Uda and Sultan Abdul Halim will undergo renovation. The RM20mil upgrading works will begin this coming June 2021 and is expected to complete in 12 to 15 months. In addition, the renovation of the terminal will prioritise the upgrading of the waiting and ticketing areas. The terminals will be equipped with facility for the disabled as well.

Furthermore, ferries will be replaced with three passenger-only water buses and ferries for two-wheelers as announced last year. According to PPSB, there are 30 local and international bids for the tenders of vehicles. The successful bidder will be selected by the end of June. Additionally, it would take about 12 to 15 months for the transition period of the vehicles. However, it won’t hinder the process as PPSB is planning to mix and match with the existing fast boats and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferries.
