This New Nyonya Cafe in Penang is Housed Within Pinang Peranakan Mansion:

A brainchild of Li Er Cafe, which is one of the best Nyonya Cafe in Penang, Nyonya Palazzo is a beautiful place to dine in that pays homage to the rich cultures of The Peranakans. Situated on the right side of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, every corner boasts detailed local craftsmanship and collectibles of antiques.

For example, the sapphire blue wall above the entrance. You’ll notice sophisticated carvings that look lifelike. They are, in fact, intricate works performed by local craftsmen that bond pieces of ceramics together by hand.

The cafe is situated on the upper floor of the building. The interior boasts a blend of Nyonya heritage and modern elements. Even the color of the wall is based off Nyonya colour, with pieces of antiques scattered throughout the layout.

Nyonya Palazzo offers an array of Nyonya cuisines with a modern touch. You’ll find numerous Nyonya kuihs like Kuih Bengka (Tapioca cake), Miku with Kaya Butter (Red Skin Bun), Pulut Tai Tai, Kuih Seri Muka and more.

These delicacies are beautifully shaped and presented. The owner, Li Er wants to promote the Nyonya culture and food to the younger generation. In order to prevent them from going extinct, they’ll have to improvise while preserving the flavors.

What intrigued us most is you’ll get to sip your coffee in a traditional tea cup! Unwind in the afternoon like a rich tai tai with some Nyonya kuihs and delights such as Chai Tou Kuih (radish cake) and Roti Jala with curry chicken, which is highly recommended.

Nyonya Palazzo is More Than Just a Cafe:

The cafe wants their customers to fully immerse themselves in the Nyonya culture. In Korea and Japan, you’ll get to rent and walk around in their traditional outfits. Why not adorn yourself in colourful Nyonya attires and tour around the Pinang Peranakan Mansion?

Moving on to the first floor, upon entrance you’ll find yourself surrounded by local products that are available for purchase. From Harriston chocolates to local childhood snacks and homegrown organic products, you’ll be spoilt for choices. Nyonya Palazzo dedicates their heart and soul in promoting local heritage and products.

What caught our eyes is a series of jewellery and accessories displayed in a glass table. Guess what? These delicate pieces are made from real flowers from local designers! You can definitely dress up or down with them. Their ceramic tiffin on the other hand, portrays complex details of Nyonya elements. It takes days to complete one and are one of a kind, we’re hooked!
