1. Beauty In The Pot
First on the list of new things to anticipate in Penang is none other than Beauty In The Pot. There’s nothing not to love about steamboat, especially during rainy days. There are currently only 3 outlets in Malaysia; namely in Genting Highlands, The Gardens Mall, and Tropicana Gardens Mall. And, fellow foodies, here’s the tea! The 4th Beauty In The Pot outlet will be right here in Penang at Gurney Plaza! Woohoo! They will be opening at the end of December so get ready for a steamboat feast like no other.

Next up, it’s time for some Thai food and Penangites can finally look forward to the opening of the very first ParaThai in Penang. Here, you get to savour authentic Thai dishes in a modern and artistic dining ambiance. Their best-sellers include Fire Pot Tom Yum Soup, Stir-Fried Chicken with Hot Basil Leaves, Steamed Seabass with Lime and Chilli Sauce and many more. They also have a wide variety of lip-smacking Thai dishes that are worth trying.

3. Pepper Lunch
Ever heard of Pepper Lunch? Known as the Japanese fast steak restaurant chain, they are finally coming to Penang! It’s time to get your sizzle on as Pepper Lunch lets you pick the protein and sauce of your choice. You can even opt to add extra corn for that sweet and crunchy taste to your sizzling hotpot. Best-sellers include Cheesy Omelette with Chicken and Terriyaki Chicken with Egg. Now you know where to jio your friends when Pepper Lunch officially opens!

4. McDonald’s Tanjung Tokong
Fourth on the list of NEW things coming to Penang is a brand new McDonald’s Drive-Thru that will be coming to Tanjung Tokong pretty soon! Remember back when there was a McDonald’s outlet strategically located at Gurney Sunrise? Since they’ve closed, residents around Tanjung Bungah have been missing a supper spot. Now, they’re back, and even better, it’s a 24-hour outlet so you can satiate your midnight hunger pangs when they open. Yay to some late-night McNuggets!
For dessert lovers, get ready for Penang’s very first Yolé outlet. Known for serving soft-serve ice cream with 0% sugar added and alternative dairy options like oat milk, you know you won’t want to miss out on this. You can also pick from the small, medium, or large tubs in which you can also choose your preferred toppings! There is also Yolé Twist that comes with froyo or ice cream mixed with fruits and crunchy toppings, or Yolé Shake as well as Yolé Frappe and more.

6. Taco Bell Batu Kawan

Weeks ago, we welcomed our very first Taco Bell at City Junction and Penangites went loco over it. And they are now expanding over to the mainland at Batu Kawan so our mainland friends can try it out without traveling all the way to the island just for some tacos. As of now, there isn’t any confirmation date but it looks like they might just officially open before 2023.
7. Jipinhe Scones
If you’ve been to KL, then you most probably have heard of 吉品合 Jipinhe Scones. They are from China and are known for their crispy scones in savoury flavours like Sichuan Mala Spicy Chicken Thigh, Savoury Shrimp & Chicken Thigh, and many more. They will be opening their first Penang outlet right here at Gurney Plaza by the end of December 2022 so foodies, be on the lookout!
