Nestled in one of the shophouses along Lebuh Acheh, pinning down the restaurant was a bit of an adventure. The likelihood of one recognising this place is almost impossible, because it has zero signage at the storefront. The only thing that identifies Muthu Banana Leaf Restaurant is its yellow exterior wall. (Hint: It’s just right next to Chiat Cheong Sdn. Bhd.)

Just a heads up, you might want to put aside certain expectations because this place is unlike any other restaurants. Upon entrance, you’ll be greeted with warm, attentive staffs. There are only a few tables leaning against the walls, and the overall ambiance resembles home, with a TV casually sitting at one corner.

The menu is pretty straightforward, authentic banana leaf rice that comes with 4 condiments. The staff will then bring a tray of mains to you and you can pick from there. They provide three types of curries: Crab curry, Chicken curry, and Fish curry. We highly recommend to mix all three to get the best flavor.

What looked like an unassuming dish took us by surprise. The dishes are so packed with flavors, we could taste the spices dancing in our mouth. And the curries complement the dishes so well! There was even a side of rasam as palate cleanser.
