Jalan Kek Chuan, Penang Ranked 17th In List Of ‘40 Most Beautiful Streets In The World’

Penang is well-known for many things, from the tasty street food to our beautiful architecture. The state’s heritage zones continue to attract thousands of tourists worldwide, and now Penang has once again captured global attention when one of our famous streets, Jalan Kek Chuan is named “The 17th Most Beautiful Street in the World”!

New York-based interior decorating magazine, House Magazine has curated a list featuring 40 of the most beautiful streets in the world, where Penang snagged the 17th spot!

The article’s writer, Elly Leavitt wrote that the list features exquisite streets that boast “pastel colours galore, unique architectural details, and more than one UNESCO World Heritage Site”.

Placed on the top 3 are Greece, Massachusetts and Cape Town, South Africa. The list also featured unique and vibrant streets from Morocco, Portugal, Italy, France, Japan, Argentina and so on.

Despite the fierce competition, Penang somehow captured the eye of the writer when the list placed Jalan Kek Chuan as the 17th most beautiful street in the world, providing recognition for our beloved country. The magazine even praised the road and George Town for their famed street art.

“If it’s architectural eye candy you’re after, head to Jalan Kek Chuan to peruse the ornately detailed shops that blend Eastern and Western designs.”

Penang is one of the only two Southeast Asian cities on the list, with the other being Soi Romanee in Phuket.

Penang’s Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairperson, Yeoh Soon Hin also shared this wonderful acclamation on his Facebook feed.

“It gives me great pleasure to share with you that our very own local street- Kek Chuan Road has been accredited as the top 17th of the most beautiful streets in the world,” he wrote.

Yeoh furthermore expressed how this humble street emerged as a shining gem amidst so many breathtaking global destinations. He believes that this recognition will bring a profound impact on the state’s local economy and tourism industry.

He also expects an influx of curious travellers in Penang who are eager to witness our beloved Kek Chuan Road.

Congratulations, Penang! We had once again reached another global milestone in bringing more travellers to our beautiful state.
