Very Hot Lehh, How? (Desserts in Penang)

1. Matcho Cafe

Cr: @xaenxia

Wanna update your feed with some cool spots? Here’s Matcho, where pink lovers could dive in here and not want to leave the place. The whole cafe is decorated in pink, which is in contrast to its name “Macho.” The whole cafe brings off a very welcoming vibe, and the owner must be a pink lover (yaaasssss). Even their signature dish is named after the color pink (Pink Toast). Bear in mind this is not lunch or dinner spot, but rather a place to chill so please don’t expect them to serve mains. Despite toasts, they also serve refreshing drinks in rose gold cups that’s perfect for the weather. Matcho is probably the cutest spot for desserts in Penang.

Hungarian Chimney cake baked upon order topped with soft serve and your favourite toppings, what more can you ask for? Sweet and crunchy pastry paired with soft serve each of you choice, their soft serve changes every two weeks. If you like that particular flavour, be sure to have them as much as you can before they run out (matchaa!).

5. 2F+ Coffee by Yellow House

Cr: @limchinlee79

Many do not know this place due to its secluded location, but if you’re in Relau area, chances of passing by this coffee house is 90%. We’ve visited this place a few times and little did we know they serve really good desserts. We always thought they serve only affordable mains and quality coffee, but their waffles left us bewildered. The ambiance, a plus point. From the outside 2F+ might look a little rundown, but the interior feels like home. There’s even a corner for reading.

6. Bingsu 9 Korean Dessert Cafe

Cr: @wikki_panwk

Who’s craving for some shaved ice now? Love ice kacang but hate the toppings and what a modern touch to it? Bingsu might be for you, it’s korean shaved ice. The weather is so hot and shaved ice is the best dessert in Penang to beat the heat. Tucked in Karpal Singh, Bingsu 9 offers flavors for all, with toppings that even kids could enjoy. Plus they’re quite healthy as well (mostly fruits you say leh). Their signature is a must try because who puts cheesecake on bingsu? Their cheesecake is DAMN good and paired well with the semi-sweet shaved ice and they don’t sell the cheesecake separately. (To Bingsu 9, please put the cheesecake in ala carte menu thank you).

Fourspoons is yet another dessert place for waffles and ice cream, and they do only serve waffles, pancakes and homemade ice cream. Just like the name, “Fourspoons” means sharing, whether be it your sweet treat or laughter. Everything is made from scratch and small batch daily, they’re a humble cafe providing the best they could to make their customers happy. Hop over to try their soft serve, a new addition to their ice cream fam. They have trendy flavours such as Black Sesame and Matcha that’s perfect for this scorching hot weather.

8. Norm

Those who are familiar with The Saw Emporium, you’ll know what Norm is (and we’ve mentioned it so many times). This unpretentious cafe is as simple as its name, serving only coffee, waffles and tiramisu. But their tiramisu and waffles are no joke, delicious and most of all, instagrammable. Stay till evening and watch how Norm turns into Noct, where baristas turn bartenders as they shake, stir, and serve a selection of signature cocktails and desserts with a boozy kick. This is by far one of the quirkiest place for desserts in Penang.

9. Hardwicke House

Cr: @lindatch7883

Sound like another fancy place for fine dine right? Nope don’t be fooled by its over the top mansion-looking exterior. They serve pretty good, handcrafted desserts too and not many know that. Each item is carefully plated, crafted before being presented to customers. They’re so pretty you might just feel reluctant to destroy them, they’re nothing close to being easy. Apart from that, they have a large selection of gelatos located just right next to the cakes counter, both are so pleasing to the eyes. Could this be one of the fanciest place to have desserts in Penang?
