This year, Penang has been really blessed with so many openings from big brands. We are talking about BookXcess at Gurney Paragon, and bubble tea brands such as Xing Fu Tang, and Tiger Sugar. Strangely, we are still waiting for Haidilao to open. It is taking ages. But, we have another good news! Premium Japanese Shaved Ice, Kakiyuki, Is Opening In Penang Soon.
Kakiyuki is finally coming
Kakiyuki was previously known as Kakigori. Here’s an excerpt from Instagram about the transition; “Our mission is to distinguish KAKIYUKI from kakigōri, a general Japanese term for shaved ice, thus preventing any confusion in the market segment. KAKIYUKI maintains the same essential elements – fluffy shaved ice, real fruits and premium ingredients, no artificial colouring or flavouring, and never, ever made from concentrate.”
Now, you don’t need to head down all the way to Klang Valley to try out these delectable Japanese shaved ice. We have tried it ourselves, and it is like no other. Similar to its description, the shaved ice is fluffy, and it is packed with real fruits, and premium ingredients! Some of our favourites include Elderflower, Honey Rose Baklava, and Uji Matcha! Other Japanese desserts are also available.

The perfect way to combat Penang’s heat
Apart from eating premium shaved ice, we are excited to see Kakiyuki’s interior. The branch located at Tropicana Avenue is hidden behind a vending machine. We are hoping that there will be something special about the first store in Penang, too! According to their representatives, it will be opening during the last quarter of 2019. Yay! Finally, we can combat Penang’s heat with some shaved ice goodness.
