When in Penang, a meal starts early in the morning. A classic breakfast would be some toasts and coffee while for some, nothing makes a perfect morning than going for a yum cha session. Speaking of yum cha, this 40-year-old Dim Sum restaurant in George Town, Yong Pin Restaurant, now has a brand new retro Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng interior.
Yong Pin Restaurant Now Has A Retro HK Cha Chaan Teng Look
Yong Pin Restaurant has been around since 1981. In fact, it is one of the ‘Big 5’ Dim Sum spots within the vicinity. Recently, the restaurant has gotten an uplift which now resembles a nostalgic Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng.
Step into the restaurant, and you’ll see a bright space with white and green walls. Then, the retro Hong Kong cafe interior is further reflected by the presence of booth seatings and 70’s furniture.
Like all Dim Sum restaurants, Yong Pin serves up a good variety of handmade Dim Sum, both steamed and fried like Siu Mai, Har Gow, and more. Simply make your way to the Dim Sum counters and pick from the array of Dim Sum trays available.
Next, head on over to the Bao counters and make your pick. Our personal recommendation is the Chinese Layer Cake which is made using Kaya, Salted Egg and comes with a citrusy hint. Not to mention, the perfectly stacked layers are good for your feed too!
Jom Yum Cha!
It’s no doubt that this revamp has given Yong Pin Restaurant a breath of fresh air that’s at the same time, more welcoming to its patrons. So, the next time you’d like to yum cha with your loved ones, Yong Pin Restaurant is a pretty good choice.
