1.  1 FEB-Launching Of @CAT FOOD Bank

Hosted by IMAX TECH Solution, FOOD Bank aims to reduce food waste by asking public to donate food that are still in good condition to the poor and needy. When was the last time you clear your cabinet and fridge? Found extra groceries that are close to expiry and don’t know what to do with it? Bring them over to FOOD Bank, a platform to channel them to soup kitchen and needy. It wont cost you much, plus it’s a good deed.

2.  2&3 FEB- Yellowing (亂世備忘) | Penang Screening & Discussion with Director

Calling all Yellowing fans, this is something you must not miss. A film about a political movement, the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong that happened back in 2014, free screening would be held in Hin Bus Depot. Along with the director, Chan Tze Woon, together there will be a Q&A Session. This event is held for two days, the first day conducted in Chinese and the second conducted in English. The film is in Cantonese but there are Chinese and English subtitles available.

3.  2-4 FEB- Sundown Festival

What happens after the sun sets ? From appetizers to supper, Sundown Festival has got your cravings fixed. It’s an enormous gathering of cafes and bars in Penang which includes music, food, art and craftsmanship. Located at Macallum Connoisseur’s outdoor carpark, be sure to starve before you come.

4.  3 FEB- Ultimate Foam Party

A monthly event held by Hard Rock Hotel every first Saturday of the month, this is one massive foam party by the poolside. Release the beast and dance along the music played by Live DJ, cover yourself in foam and have fun. Besides that, there will also be surprise performances or gimmicks by the organizers and other exciting event games.

5.  4 FEB- Penang Food & Travel 1st Anniversary Celebration Fair

6.  11 FEB- Occupy Beach Street Run

Back by popular demand, this year’s run is themed bright and vibrant red, you’ll be able to soak in the festive of Chinese New Year’s mood in advance by joining a 5km distance fun run around George Town World Heritage Site. Also, roam the streets and find high stilt lion dance, war drums performance as well as all forms of colorful celebrations by pleasant surprise.

7. 11 FEB TO 15 MAR- Kek Lok Si Display of Lights

Kek Lok Si Temple pulls thousands of peoples, whether tourist or local each year especially during the month of Chinese New Year. This is because the temple only turn on its beautiful, mesmerizing lights during that short period. Showcasing more than 10,000 lights, it is believed this act of faith will bring them peace, luck and prosperity. This is one of the major events happening in Penang February 2018.

8.  24 FEB- Pai Ti Kong Festival

My Penang

Ti Kong Seh, also known as the Jade Emperor’s Birthday, is the 9th day of Chinese New Year. This day is also the first day of Hokkien New Year, celebrated on a grand scale by the Hokkien clan to commemorate their forefathers escape in ancient China. When the clock strikes 12, prayers are performed with much gaiety with offerings of food, fruits, liquor and sugarcane stalks to the Jade Emperor God.

9.  24&25 FEB- Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2018

The highlight of this article, also one of the most important events happening in Penang February 2018, is the hot air balloon festival. The only hot air balloon festival on an island in Malaysia, It’s a one-of-a-kind experience. Numerous hot air balloons by international and local balloonists will reside in Padang Polo over the 2-day festival, together with family-friendly activities, creative workshops and more.

10.  25 FEB- Penang Chinese New Year Celebration

Locals might be more familiar with the name ‘Miao Hui’ (庙会), an annual Chinese New Year Celebration of the island by the Chinese. This event seeks to enlighten younger generations and tourists about the history of the clan houses and Chinese-based organisations, and also the Chinese culture. Performances such as lion dance, traditional dances, skits, and many more will be held along the streets of Georgetown. There are also lots of Chinese and local delicacies to be sold so be sure to participate and fully experience the Chinese vibes.
