1. [4 AUG-2 SEP] George Town Festival 2018
An annual feast of music, culture, heritage, food and art to celebrate George Town as UNESCO World Heritage Site. George Town Festival is an event to celebrate, promote, showcase and to remember the rooted culture and diversity of Penang Island. In conjunction with its 9th Anniversary, exhibitions, events, gallery, screenings, films are held across Penang, particularly corners of George Town. This is to promote and provide a platform to local artists so that they could spread the culture and their talents to a whole new level. 3. [21JUL-12AUG] REKA (A Creative Market)
A creative market, REKA is a collaborative effort between Hin Bus Depot and Grafikdistrict. With the aim to provide a platform for designers to interact with each other, they too could bond with the audience about their products. Products featured has sense of creativity and strong art that are one-of-a-kind and very interesting. The theme for this edition is about “everything old is new again,” meaning vintage. Mom jeans, round glasses, rattan bags, pins are some of the products listed. REKA is one of the interesting events in August Penang 2018 worth spending your day walking through. The space itself, Hin Bus Depot, is serene and worth exploring.

4. [3-5 AUG] Penang Coffee and Desserts Festival 2018
What’s better than having an afternoon tea indoor, air conditioned? Penang Coffee and Desserts Festival is back at Gurney Paragon. It’s a win-win situation, indulge in some sweet tooth and coffee after shopping therapy. If you think it’s just about coffee and desserts, you’re wrong. During these 3 days, there’ll be interesting workshops and events to enlighten and have fun. Learn how to distinguish coffee beans, paint using coffee and more. Besides, there’ll also be a food truck gathering happening along Jalan Kelawai in conjunction with the event. 6. [10-12 AUG] TLM Baby Expo 2018
Food & Beverage Expo and Baby Expo happen side by side. If there’s one, you know there’ll be another one. You’ll see mothers or parents pushing baby strollers or even carrying their newborn around. As if it’s there isn’t enough crowd, baby joins the fun. Amazing deals on diapers, milk powders, strollers and other baby products are what parents reach out to. Besides the deals, there’ll be fun and activities happening so don’t forget to bring your little ones. After a long shopping, head to the food expo for some happy tummy time.

7. [16-19 AUG] FAST 2018 Conference and Exhibition
Events in August Penang 2018 revolving around food, art, science and technology. Now you might think this is yet another food event, it’s actually more towards the process of it. Organized by Tech Dome Penang and the TOP, FAST is all about food safety, health issues related to food, how food are produced, packaging of food, culinary matters, IT & IOT in relations to food industry, education in culinary and food technology. If you’re curious about all these topics, head over to FAST then. It’s definitely a family-friendly event, plus educational, worth visiting. Those who are field-related are recommended to attend as well.

8. [18-26 AUG] Penang Floral Festival
An annual event of the island, Penang Floral Festival exhibits over hundred species of flowers and plants. The annual event serves as a platform for florists and traders to promote their products and to interact with the audience. You can bring your family over to stroll though beautiful floral and get closer to the nature. You could also get enlightened by workshops, exhibitions and contest happening during the time period. Penang Floral Festival is one of the events in August Penang 2018 that brings human out of the tech world and get back to nature.

9. [31 AUG] Merdeka Parade 2018
One of the most celebrated event in August Penang 2018, also the most significant event across Malaysia. It’s our 61st National Day or Independence Day. Each year, parades would be held to commemorate this day, to remember those who have fought hard for our country. Penang’s Merdeka Parade, on the other hand, is held by the Penang State Government. Thousands would flock Esplanade, bringing their children to celebrate this day. This is also to educate the younger generations about our history, and what the heros have gone through to free our country from colonization.

10. [11AUG] Fundraising Carnival for SJKC Kwang Hwa Sungai Nibong
Different from all the events in August Penang 2018 that we’ve featured above, this one’s with a mission. As the title suggests, it’s a fundraising carnival to help build the school. This includes operational expenditures including electricity, building and equipment upkeep Teaching material consumption, temporary teacher wages and more. You could lend help by supporting the carnival, which is to buy coupons. There are several locations and ways to get the coupons, we’ve linked below the page for detailed information. Your kindness means a lot to the school, we hope you foodies could support them. Nonetheless, just eat your way through the carnival like a true foodie.
