#1 Aris Cheese Naan
Another food gem in the USM neighbourhood, Aris Cheese Naan is located in Ivory Plaza. They’re a popular hangout spot among university students. So what’s good in Aris? Cheese Naan of course. If you’re an ultimate cheese lover, get one with extra cheese.
You get the satisfying cheese pull. Portion and taste wise, great especially when paired together with their kuah curry daging. For cheese lovers looking for cheesy food in Penang, Aris Cheese Naan has got to be in your list.

#2 Mr. Wang
Nestled in the row of shophouses opposite 1st Avenue, Mr. Wang is set to be the next millennial hangout spot. Probably one of the fanciest places to get cheesy food in Penang, their Japanese-Taiwanese infused menu breaks the norm.
Step into Mr.Wang and you’ll get the dark, aesthetic vibe which is oddly welcoming. Their signature cheesy chicken set is the bomb. You get a little DIY session, where they’ll fire up the cheese pan and you do the cheese coating on the deep fried chicken cutlets. The portion, taste, and service you get justify the price point.

#3 The Mac’s Penang
This is one of editor’s favourite cheesy food in Penang, we even did a video of it few months back. While mac n cheese is America’s staple, that’s not the case here in Penang. It’s a rare find over here, not to even mention a good one.
This particular mac n cheese stall right opposite USM in Ivory Plaza serves some of the best mac n cheese in Penang. Take a peek at how they’re cooked, you’ll be surprised by how generous they’re in cheese and cream. Our favourite goes to the original and roasted garlic flavour, ooey gooey and fragrant. We suggest getting the small one so you could order more flavours to try, plus it’s super filling.

#4 Project Nasi Lemak
If you didn’t know what Project Nasi Lemak is by now, we think you’re missing out. The hottest nasi lemak joint in town, they serve some really good local classic with a twist. The signature set has a super huge crispy drumstick paired together with blue rice made from butterfly pea flower, cucumber, ikan bilis, peanuts and sambal on the side.
The twist we’re talking about here is their lobster nasi lemak, fancy ingredients on a cheap local staple. Their fresh, juicy lobster is topped with cheese and grilled to perfection. You get the lobster juice together with the creamy cheese, and surprisingly pair well together with their sambal.

#5 Old Master Coffee
We take pride in our local coffee, “kopi o.” Locals these days appreciate local coffee less and shift their attention towards artisan coffee. Old Master Coffee aims to bring back the local coffee culture and it’s probably the only coffee kiosk set in a heritage building.
They have their own coffee factory in Taiping, and the owner’s father has been roasting coffee bean since 1959 until present. Their Nanyang coffee is what we take pride in, and to adapt the market’s preferences, they added a layer of cheese cream on top of classic coffee. They taste so smooth and rich, with hint of saltiness and flavor from the cheese, it’s some unique cheesy food in Penang we’re talking about.

#6 Mr.Dakgalbi
Think about Korean food and the first thought would be red hot spicy, kimchi and cheese. Cheese lovers out there would flood the comment section if we didn’t include Mr.Dakgalbi in our cheesy food in Penang list. Run by actual Korean, Mr.Dakgalbi offer simple yet loved by many- dakgalbi. Instant noodles, cabbage, rice cake, chicken chunks, spicy chilli paste and cheese are added and mixed together in a huge hot pan. You can witness the whole process as they fry them on-the-spot for you. Though the ingredients are simple, the flavors and texture will make you dig in for more. Note: please come in a pax of 3 and above as the portion is huge.

#7 Moody Cow Cafe
Some might go “why is a cake place listed in cheesy food in Penang?” We thought it’s inappropriate to not list the best cheesecake in Penang. After all, it’s still cheese no? Have you ever had a RM42 per slice cake? The price will set you back, but portion wise, you’ll need about 3 people to finish a slice.
They have a wide range of “exotic flavours” like salted egg, cempedak and durian. They’re really generous in terms of ingredients, to the point we felt it’s a bit overwhelming. You could really taste so much out of a cake, rich and dense. The exotic flavours are their bestsellers by the way.

#8 Streeto Pizza
If you didn’t know, we have featured Streeto Pizza in our Top 10 Pizza in Penang. It’s a Muslim-owned pizza joint nestled in Teluk Kumbar. You know how some pizza chains charge for extra cheese, this and that and by the time you check out the total is shockingly expensive.
That’s not the case with Streeto Pizza, they’re super generous with their cheese, and everything is made from scratch. Get that ooey gooey cheese pull and stuff the amazing pizzas into your mouth. It’s simply one of the best cheesy food in Penang to indulge.

#9 Daseo
Oops, we did a video on this as well. Set in Queensbay Mall is Daseo, who took over the previous Korean restaurant. While they’re still serving Korean dishes, you might notice some changes, especially the price. For first-timers, get the Simpson and army stew if you’re coming in a pack. If you’re in a group of two, a small set is enough to feed you both. Their side dishes are worth trying as well, all coated in cheese. Well, Korean food is mostly about the cheese, and you can sample them at Da Seo.

#10 Little Journeyman Cafe
On to the last one, it’s fairly inappropriate to not include Little Journeyman. They’re the only cafe in Penang that serves food with Raclette cheese. You know the video where they’ll heat up the wheel of cheese, bring it to you and do the cheese melts onto your food? That’s Little Journeyman if you’re finding that cheesy food in Penang. That particular cheese add-on gives so much flavor, with a bitter note and creamy finish to your food. Try them if you haven’t.
