Both flights will arrive at Penang day-to-day, and soon joined by other airlines including Scoot Tigerair and Malaysia Airlines. Scoot Tigerair will provide four flights weekly starting from March 17, while Malaysia Airlines offer daily flights from April 1.

According to Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman, Yeoh Soon Hin, these arrivals are likely to provide a significant boost to Penang’s tourism economy.

“The VTL scheme plays a pivotal role prior to the full resumption of international tourism as it will serve as a benchmark for future international travel activities.

He also claimed that open communication is important for the successful launch of this initiative.

“We will keep an open channel of communication with airline representatives as well as the airport staff members to ensure seamless launch of VTL,” he said.

The VTL-Air was an initiative to allow fully vaccinated air travelers travel between two countries without mandatory quarantine. It began on November 29 last year, between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) route. Moreover, it has served 82,906 passengers arriving from Singapore as of February 28.
