Rollney Penang @ Lebuh Leith, Georgetown

Something Expensive is Cooking*

So by now you might be familiar with Rollney Penang, it’s one of the hottest spot for desserts in Penang. Even tourists from different parts of the world have tried and loved it. So if you have not tried their desserts, you better head over to it now. We did a video on Rollney Penang previously and here we are again, visiting Rollney Penang for the third time. That’s because their desserts are very addictive and we heard something new is available. (Hint: it’s very expensive)

So What’s Rollney Penang?

Before we enter the highlight of today’s blog, let us walk you through Rollney Penang, this is for the “newbies” (you’re welcome). A dessert shop focuses solely on Kurtos Kalacs and Soft Serve, in fact, Kurtos Kalacs comes first. Kurtos Kalacs is also known as the Hungarian chimney cake, a type of pastry where doughs are rolled onto a cone and baked fresh.

In Rollney Penang, you get to see how the chimney cakes are made from scratch upon entering the shop. In fact, it’s made upon ordering. There’s three flavors to choose from: Golden Glaze, Cinnamon Sugar and Coconut. (We’re keeping the taste a secret just so that you get to surprise your taste buds a little) For the Soft Serve, their flavors changes every two weeks. So make sure to grab it before it’s gone.

We recommend pairing your Soft Serve with the Cinnamon Sugar Kurtos Kalacs, they’re the best out of all three.  Their Hungarian chimney cakes are so popular and good that Rollney Penang decided to sell them individually. Take a look at the range of toppings you get to choose from, we’re talking about 15 toppings.

Speaking of tourists, we kid you not because we’ve got proof.

Okay this is not the highlight yet but still enough to make you gasp because editor screamed when she found out this week’s flavor — Thai Tea. Uses pure thai tea powder, this flavor is available until 15 April only!

We picked chocolate brownie, biscuit sticks and marshmallow as toppings (RM17.90). The brownie and marshmallow are toasted right before they put it on top of your soft serve, they’re so good! Verdict on the taste: The soft serve goes smooth into your throat. On first bite you’ll feel that the Thai Tea is not thick and strong enough. But as you scoop more in, the thai tea will fill your entire mouth without being too overpowering.

The ambiance is also a plus point, quaint, cozy and spacious. The minimalist design is a pleasant to the eye, you get to enjoy your desserts at ease.

First we have 24K gold bar, then 24K clothes, 24K shoes……the list goes on. But 24K Ice Cream?! Yes the ice-cream is coated with a piece of REAL edible 24K gold, and finish off with a dust of gold powder. From gold pieces to gold powder, everything is imported. Just take a look at the presentation, no wonder Rollney Penang sold 500 cones of it on the first day of the launch. Price is a little steep, starts from RM53.90 depending on how many toppings you want.

Final Thought:

You might be wondering how it tasted (like will I glow after indulging it?). We’re not sure whether the 24K gold will make you look younger, but one thing for sure, it’s a great experience. It’s not like everyday you get to indulge in something that expensive. Super Instagrammable, once-in-a-lifetime experience kind of thing. After all, humans are all about catching up with the trend, no?
