Penang-Inspired Short Animation Film, ‘The Muralz’ Now Screening In GSC

On 11 October, local animation studio, Studio Rawr Pictures Sdn Bhd proudly introduced its latest animation film, ‘The Muralz’, highlighting Penang’s beauty. The studio is known for its 2D and 3D animation works, and brand partnerships including Lego, Sushi King, Hotlink etc. This masterpiece is a collaboration with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) as an initiative to promote the local movie landscape.

‘The Muralz’ Aims To “Serve As A Global Symbol Of Hope”

Managing Director of Studio Rawr Pictures Sdn Bhd, Jeremy Lee is the mastermind behind this remarkable animation. He considered presenting the values of determination, compassion, and human bonds with Penang as the setting.

The animation eventually came to life with the support of organizations such as the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE).

Lee expressed his vision behind this piece that it is not created only for entertainment, but to also evoke curiosity and the desire to explore. It brings its audience on an adventure to discover Penang’s captivating attractions.

Other than being a tribute to Penang, ‘The Muralz’ aims to bring hope and inspire its viewers worldwide to embrace love and collaboration even during the darkest hours.

It’s not just a story but an invitation to our audience to mould our future with kindness and solidarity,” Lee said.

Bringing Hope To The Malaysia Animation Film Festival 2023 (MAFF)

The short film shares how the power of unity and resilience can overcome almost anything, with the COVID-19 pandemic as an instance.

The film features the calm yet deserted streets of Penang, depicting the time during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. As murals spring to life, Azam, a hardworking delivery rider is accompanied by three animated friends: ‘Pahlawan Nasi Lemak’, ‘Rojak Man’ and ‘Kapten Cendol’.

It showcases how the power of unity and resilience can overcome even the strongest obstacles. With the previous pandemic as an example, the film urges the viewers to always prioritize teamwork, especially in hard times.

‘The Muralz’ currently joins the lineup of the Malaysia Animation Film Festival 2023 (MAFF), along with six other entries. You can now catch it at selected GSC outlets in Penang until Oct 25!
