Hartasuma Wins RM245 Million Penang Hill Cable Car Project

Hartasuma wins the bid among six companies that submitted the Request for Proposal (RFP), with an estimated investment amount of RM245 million. The successful bidder is awarded based on multiple evaluations. This includes the company’s financial capabilities, technical and operational capabilities, environmental protection measures and proposal at the time of bidding.

Hartasuma will own the concession for the Penang Hill cable car over the next 30 years. Thus, the company will be responsible for maintenance and operations.

Cable Car From Botanic Gardens To Penang Hill Station

What can we expect from this project? The 2.9km cable car route will start from Penang Botanic Gardens, all the way up to Penang Hill Station. The approximate time frame for completion is about three years. So, we are expecting it to be up and running in 2025!

The cable car will have a capacity of 1,000 passengers per hour at a speed of 6 meters per second. There will be 43 gondola cabins and 15 towers, while the travel journey will take about 10 minutes. In addition, this project will involve a large multi-storey car park built on the grounds of Penang Botanic Gardens.

Looking Forward To The New Attraction!

To sum it up, Penang will be gaining another iconic tourist attraction once the project comes to a completion. It is an addition to the existing Penang Funicular Railway that has been serving residents and visitors for almost 100 years. We can’t wait to visit Penang Hill again with a different experience!
