  • The routine takes place from 8PM onwards.
  • 5,200 litres of food-grade disinfectant is sprayed on residential areas, eateries and more.

We need not say more about the peril that comes alongside COVID-19. To date, there are over 2000 cases in Malaysia and 75 cases in Penang alone. It has robbed over 20 lives of Malaysians. And, those figures exclude the cases in other countries. While the Movement Control Order is in effect, there are different plans for different states. And here in Penang, our volunteer firemen are doing their own part to curb the spread of this global pandemic.

Of course, with its seriousness, everyone wishes they can contribute to the eradication of Coronavirus. While our front liners are fighting the virus round the clock, if we can, we should definitely lend a helping hand as well.  This is why the Penang firemen squads are volunteering to sanitise the streets of Penang on a nightly basis.

Starting from the 22nd of March (Sunday), the street sanitisation process has taken place for 6 hours each night. If you reside in the areas of Mount Erskine or Tanjung Tokong, you’ll probably notice the process in session.

For each sanitisation session, it will begin at 8 PM until 1 AM along multiple streets in both Mount Erskine and Tanjung Tokong. The routine is started by using fire trucks hauling 5,200 litres of food-grade disinfectant. Then, the disinfectant will be sprayed on shop-lots, houses as well as streets.

Each Sanitisation Routine Starts From 8 PM

In case you’re wondering, the use of food-grade disinfectant is toxic-free and is harmless to men. Now that’s one more reason why the operating hours of Penang’s essential services are restricted from 6AM-8PM only. It’s for sanitisation-purposes and is definitely a good way to eradicate the spread of COVID-19.
