1. Kin Coffeebar

When weekend greets us, somehow we will have the idea of visiting a cafe and just chill out. If you love doing exactly that, then Kin Coffeebar, a new cafe in the heart of Georgetown might just be your cup of tea (or coffee). Kin Coffeebar’s very first outlet was in Bukit Mertajam and has recently opened its second outlet here at Jalan Hutton. Simplicity is the concept here, the menu comes with 3 cake options and several beverages. The new spot boasts plenty of natural sunlight, adding an extra edge to your photos.

2. Brunch Cafe

The next new spot in Penang to visit this August is Brunch Cafe. Aptly named, this cafe serves a wide variety of brunch menu including Japanese rice bowls (from 5PM onwards), poke bowls and even Western food. Not only that, but their dinner menu is equally irresistible. We might have seen Korean toasts all over our feed so if you’re tempted to try them out, Brunch Cafe offers 8 types of these toasts too!

It’s undeniable that everyone loves a slice of cake and there’ll be extra credit if the cake has a unique combination of flavours too. And here’s a tip; you can find a simple cake store along Lebuh Pantai, adorably named 呱呱小铺, or its English equivalent, GuaGua’s Store. In fact, the very first outlet actually opened in Machang Bubuk and since its opening, locals have been flocking over to get a taste of their delicious cakes. It’s a tiny cafe that specialises in cakes and coffee-simple, basic and just what we need. Expect to find one-of-a-kind cake options such as Salted Egg, Passionfruit, Grapefruit, and more seasonal flavours.

5. Dozo Japanese Restaurant

Penangites, we have a new Japanese restaurant in town! Dozo is a popular Japanese brand established in South Kensington in 2011. Serving premium-quality, contemporary, fine Japanese cuisine, they’ve expanded their wings to Ipoh, Malaysia in 2016, and this year, they’re finally here in Penang! If you’re craving for high-quality, premium Japanese fares, drop by at Dozo to try out their Sashimi No Moriawase, Volcano Maki and signature Bibikara Ramen. Oh, we forgot to mention that the head chef at Dozo is Hon San, an ex sous-chef at the renowned Nobu, Beijing.

The next new spot in Penang that’s a must-visit this August is Narrow Marrow’s new location at Beach Street. If you’re a cake lover, then the name Narrow Marrow is no stranger to you. The name of the cafe is strongly influenced by its narrow interior but they have now relocated to a new spot with plenty more space So, yay to cakes and a spacious cafe interior! Of course, Narrow Marrow is also known for its wide array of unique cakes making it a go-to spot for some weekend chill vibes.

Midnight Cat Noodle is a supper spot that offers spicy Sichuan noodles so if you’re out late, you can satiate those supper cravings in this new spot. Did we mention that the interior of this place is super nostalgic? With decor pieces such as the classic sewing machine, vintage enamel tiffin carrier and old photos, this new spot will take you back in time.
