Gracing the event was our Chief Minister who urged the importance of eye-care awareness in his officiating speech. He mentioned that around 25% of the population suffers from various eye conditions, hence it is of utmost importance to address these impairments for the well-being of Penangites.

Adding on to that, “Penang is currently the second highest aging state in Malaysia after Perak. Of Penang’s 1.77 million population, almost 15% is aged 60 or older. The United Nations Population Project predicts that by 2040, Penang will have the highest aging population in Malaysia. Roughly 26.2% of our people will be 60 years old or more.

This statistic has a direct consequence on the prevalence of visual impairment for Penangites and also the entire country. With the brand new upgrade of the premise, ISEC is a significant addition to the state’s healthcare landscape; in line with the state’s vision towards becoming a hub for advanced medical care.
