It goes without saying that Penang is the go-to place for some of the best food one can look for. No matter where you are, Penang has got awesome good food to satisfy your tummy. Most of the time, the best street food in Penang is helmed by the older generation with decades of experience. And with our older generation running these stalls, there is bound to be a time where they will take have to take a step back. Sadly, we’re here to share that Hutton Lane Porridge will be another gem to cease its operations by the end of 2021.

Hutton Lane Porridge Is Ceasing Operations On 31st December 2021

Hutton Lane porridge is a hidden Kochabi gem that’s named after the street they are located in. Quite a hidden gem on its own, this porridge spot has been operating for over 70 years across 2 generations.

Currently, it is helmed by a 70-year-old husband and wife duo who wakes up as early as 2 AM for preparation works. The specialty here is the sweet potato porridge that’s cooked over a charcoal fire.

Pick from around 20 types of dishes such as pickled vege, steamed egg and minced pork, roast pork, Asam fish, and many more. As one of the regular lunch spots for Penangites, Hutton Lane Porridge checks off all the right boxes. A simple, hearty bowl of porridge to pair with an array of homecooked dishes, YUM.

As for its location, there are outdoor seatings under a big shady tree. This lets us enjoy the breeze while savouring a bowl of no-frills porridge.

  1. The Auntie sometimes charged very expensive on the food 5 years ago, 2 adults & 2 kids (12 years old) she charged nearly RM50 for lunch. From then this place become history for us… price 5 years ago ah.. not now… now if for 4 people ok la… should give a try on day. Thanks for your write-up ?
