Him Heang: The Best Place To Get Tau Sar Piah In Penang

A hit across generations in Penang, Him Heang has been in business for over seven decades with the only one outlet in Penang. It started with a humble beginning in a shop on Bridge Street but has since moved its operations to the present 3-storey building located in Burmah Road.

Pride itself as one of the pioneers in the industry, they offer a wide range of local pastries with the finest ingredients. The pastries here are baked daily with no added preservatives and only available in the outlet. That’s right, they do not appoint any third parties to sell their products. Perhaps this explained why there’s always a long queue waiting for their pastries!

If there is only one thing you need to check out at Him Heang, it’s their Tau Sar Piah. The mung bean paste is well-seasoned with sprinkles of deep-fried onions and complemented the pastry skin. As you bite into it, the outer layer is fluffy while the inner part is flavourful and carried a hint of saltiness. If you haven’t tried it yet, get your hands on this pastry and you’ll understand why it’s so popular.

Besides, Him Heang is also well-know for its Tambun Biscuit. Well, some of you might think that they are the same thing, but actually no. Tambun Biscuit is the baby version of tau sar piah. It came about in the early days when the founder realized that the normal tau sar piah was rather too big to regarded as finger food. Hence, he decided to reduce the size to almost that of a ping pong ball. From then on, Tambun Biscuit was born!

As if that is not enough, they also offer many other pastries such as Beh Teh Saw, Jin Fei Chui, and Qing Tang Bing. All in all Him Heang has done an amazing job of producing these old-school pastries and keeping traditions alive. After all, they have been around for over 70 years with a strong loyal customer base, they must be doing it right!

  1. Arrogant and rude bosses and workers. Think customers owe them a living. Dont be so naive. There are other shops selling as good if not better tau sar pneah in Penang. U juz hv to know where to look. Sure u r not advertising for them??

  2. I agreed with John, they are full of themselves , thinking they re the best. They thought they been successful and don’t have to treat the customer nicely. Sad.
