Here’s How You Can Make Beautiful Rose-Shaped Mantou At Home

Hey there! If you love Mantou, here’s one recipe to check out. Today, we’ll be sharing yet another Mantou recipe by a Penang home chef, Kelly. This recipe is unique because it guides you on shaping Mantou into a rose-shape that’s super beautiful and cool! And best of all, the colour red on the Mantou is actually natural colouring from the Red Dragon Fruit. So if you can’t wait to try making rose-shaped Mantou, let’s begin!

Ingredients

A. White Dough

100g all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp instant yeast

1/2 tbsp sugar

1/4 + 2 tbsp milk

B. Red Dough

100g all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp instant yeast

1/2 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp milk

2 1/2 tbsp mashed red dragon fruit

Directions

  1. In a bowl, add in milk, sugar, instant yeast, and then stir them well
  2. Next, add in all-purpose flour, and mix the ingredients together until it forms a dough
  3. Knead the dough until smooth, cover, and set aside for 10 minutes
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for red dough (add in mashed red dragon fruit before adding in all-purpose flour)
  5. Take the risen dough and cut into half and divide into 5 small portions
  6. Roll each dough into a circular disc shape using a rolling pin
  7. Make one dough larger than the others to create the petal shape
  8. Repeat steps 5-8 for red dough
  9. Then, stack and arrange the red and white dough (5pcs) alternately

10. Use a chopstick to mark the center and fold the arranged dough in half

11. Turn the dough vertically and roll it up, creating a rose petal shape

12. Place each Mantou on parchment paper and let it rest for 30 minutes until it doubles in size

13. Steam for 15 minutes and you’re done!
