As we are all aware, roasted duck is a celebrated Chinese delicacy. And although most places are non-halal, you have to admit, that golden poultry looks super appetizing! Thankfully there’s a small stall in Penang that is dedicated to selling halal roasted ducks.
Halal Roasted Duck Stall In Penang
In an interview with Penang Foodie, the current owner, Wan Muhammad Hakimi said that the 99 Pipa & Duck Rice stall has been around since 2018. Apparently, all of the recipes come from his uncle, Abdul Halim Chung who was also the former owner of the stall. Now Hakimi handles the stall all by himself and would occasionally get assistance from his uncle and aunt when there is too much crowd.
Selling More than 12 Roasted Ducks In A Day
According to Hakimi, preparations had to be done the day before. The ducks will be processes and marinated for hours before slowly roasted to golden perfection. Before this, the stall can sell up to 35-38 ducks in a day! Whew, that’s a lot! However, due to the MCO, they can only sell around a dozen in a day.
Crispy Duck Skin For The Win!
The best-selling item at the stall has to be the pipa duck’s breast. The term ‘pipa’ refers to the technique of cooking your roasted duck again, by frying it, to get crispier skin. This crispy dish goes very well with their special sauce and Chai Boey (sour duck soup). Honestly, the ever so tender duck meat will melt your problems away.
Currently Offers Deliveries As Well
Hopping onto the bandwagon, 99 Pipa & Duck Rice also offers deliveries so you can definitely enjoy this lip-smacking dish at home. But if you are planning to have a meal here, make sure that you come over earlier because they only sell a limited number of ducks in a day.
