The long-awaited Gurney Wharf is expected to open to the public by March 2022! Earlier, it was announced that the waterfront park would be opened in June 2020. However, the development was delayed due to Movement Control Order (MCO). Phase One of this RM176mil project will feature landscapes, a skate park, a promenade, and a kiosk selling snacks and souvenirs.

Previously, Tanjung Pinang Development (TDP) held a public exhibition to propose a public park to be built on the 131 acres reclaimed area along Gurney Drive. It will comprise four distinct character areas: Seaside Retail F&B, Water Gardens, Beach, and Coastal Grove.

They also released a series of curated images, photographs, and illustrations to articulate the concept of Gurney Wharf. Thankfully, the public received the news in a positive light. Hence, a press conference was held to announce the future plans of the project.

According to Penang State Exco Jagdeep Singh Deo, Phase One of this recreational waterfront project will feature a green area. Furthermore, 50 acres public park equipped with facilities will be specially built for the disabled. Also, the open tender will be called by June 2021.

Be excited because the park will be opened to the public in June 2022! Soon, Penangites will be able to take a stroll along the promenade while enjoying the sunset and be excited to dine in eateries tucked on the waterfront park. TDP also announced that the future phases will focus on building car parks and other areas as planned.
