Surely everyone knows that Penang ferry terminals are reported to undergo renovation starting this month. Ferries will be replaced with three passenger-only water buses and ferries for two-wheelers. Fret not, because you will still be able to see the old ferry as a museum! However, those are not the only great news. Malaysians will be able to ride the Penang ferry for FREE over the next 6 months starting 1st July 2021.
You Can Ride Penang Ferry For FREE Starting 1st July 2021
Starting from 1st July 2021 onwards, all Malaysian foot passengers can ride the Penang ferry for FREE. It will be available for the next six (6) months too! The state government has allocated RM468,000 (RM78,000 per month) to sponsor 65,000 tickets per month. Now, how can you get the free tickets? There’s no need to line up at the counters for the tickets. Simply scan your MyKad at Penang Port Sdn Bhd’s MyKad scanner before boarding. Easy, right?
#KitaJagaKita
The Covid-19 outbreak has definitely affected many negatively since March 2021. Ferry has always been one of the most important transportation for us Penangites. Aligned with the hashtag #KitaJagaKita, the Penang state government is taking this initiative to relieve the financial burden of those who are affected. Hence, let’s also fulfil our responsibilities by abiding by the SOPs and stay at home when there’s no urgent matter to attend to. Stay safe, everyone!
