The next breakfast spot that you need to try out in Penang is Breakfast From The Barn. They’ve been around Penang for quite some time, but ever since its relocation, the business has been blooming. What’s really good here is the scrambled eggs that are buttery, creamy, and soft. Sautéed mushroom is nicely seasoned and has a nice caramelized aftertaste. Oh, and they even make their own chicken sausage, from scratch!

Have you ever eaten a dish that takes you back to a certain time and place? It’s almost like the scene from Ratatouille when the food critic took a bite, and he was immediately transported to his favourite childhood memory? Well, Urban Daybreak’s simple Cinnamon French Toast truly reminds me of Christmas. It is pretty strange – considering the ingredients vanilla mascarpone, summer berries, and maple drizzle. Clearly, nothing screams winter here. Urban Daybreak has been my go-to spot for breakfast and brunch simply because I love honest, and good food. Simple ingredients, extraordinary flavours.
3. Emperor Villa

Emperor Villa is a newly opened breakfast spot over at Sungai Ara. But, there’s a twist, you’ll need to walk approximately 45 minutes before reaching the peak whereby Emperor Villa is located. Serving a few breakfast options like the classic Toast & Egg with Coffee, you can also find Nasi Lemak and some stir-fry noodles here. So, what do you say? Take a walk before indulging? Oh, and here’s a pro tip: start your walk earlier and try to reach before 8 am to avoid the crowd.

Well, if you drop by at Roti by Golden Bowl, you’ll get to have an awesome breakfast accompanied by a windy atmosphere. Sounds cool right? The breakfast menu at Roti by Golden Bowl is so wide that you’ll feel spoiled for choice. Looking for something classic? They have Toasts and Coffee. Feeling fancy? Go for their Pocket Toasts or even Cheesy Maggi. Oh, and don’t ever leave without slurping on a cup of their signature Hor Ka Sai.

In Penang, we all love our plate of Char Koay Teow or even a bowl of Curry Mee. But, if you have a preference for pork-free versions of these local delights, get them from Bee Hwa Cafe. This cafe comprises of Indonesian Muslim cooks while utilising chicken from a Halal-certified supplier. Of course, the Iced Coffee (or Kopi Peng) has a thick fragrant aroma to it, making it an ideal pair with the food here. Also, try out the Char Koay Teow or Maggi Goreng with sambal that is perfect for spicy lovers.

6. Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee

Locals would know that Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee is a gem. Having been around for close to 50 years, a bowl of Curry Mee here makes an ideal breakfast option. A bowl of delicious Curry Mee comes with springy noodles bathed in a thick curry broth coupled with creamy coconut milk. Then comes the crucial element, the chilli. Known to serve one of the best chillies that perfectly complement the noodles, this spot checks off all the requirements for a classic bowl of Curry Mee.
7. Resepi Warisan Bapak

Here at Resepi Warisan Bapak, you got to try the aromatic steamed bread paired with sweet homemade Sangkaya that comes in a cute steam bucket. Of course, if you enjoy a classic slice of Roti Bakar, you can have it here too. Additionally, there’s also various toppings (telur goyang, pandan butter and chocolate) for Roti Bakar when you feel like having something fancy. Simple and close-to-home breakfast menu such as nasi lemak, nasi goreng, bihun goreng are also available here.
8. Ah Wang Cafe

To kickstart your day, you definitely need to drop by at Ah Wang Cafe, Tanjung Bungah for a hearty Penang breakfast. The crowd here is an excellent testament to the food served; classic Kaya Toasts and Coffee. Everything here is freshly made upon order and it’ll somehow transport you back to simpler times. The crispiness of the toast has this ability to melt upon the first bite and couple that with the aromatic, homemade kaya, a slice will not make the cut. Oh, and you can even bring home a bottle of kaya to spread the goodness around.

There’s nothing like a true Malaysian breakfast if Roti Canai isn’t in the list. If you’re looking for a piece of crispy Roti Canai with a delicious Kuah pairing, then head over to Maansorali Roti Canai & Murtabak. This humble stall has been around for 22 years at the exact same spot! To top off a simple piece of Roti Canai, you have the option between Kari Ayam or Kari Kacang. For an ultimate indulgence, go ahead and mix both the curries together!

A famous spot among the locals and residences around the Tanjong Bungah area as it has been around for more than a decade. If you’re looking for some authentic banana leaf rice, this will be the spot for you. There’s also a wide range of authentic home-cooked Indian food that you can choose from such as Roti Jala, Capati, and Roti Bomb. Oh and this place is most commonly known for offering delicious Indian food at an affordable price.
