There’s a New Shop at Georgetown Selling Traditional Hokkien Fried Snacks

Fried snacks, in our opinion, are some of the best creations that God has created. Though we have to admit, finding good roadside fritters in Penang can be tricky these days. Most of them no longer preserve the old taste that we’ve been reminiscing. We recently came across a shop that sells a variety of traditional Hokkien savoury fritters, called Eng Kor Cha Bi, and they look promising.

Eng Kor Cha Bi Offers a Variety of Traditional Hokkien Savoury Fritters:

Nestled along Lebuh Presgrave, in the same row of shophouses as the famous 888 Hokkien Mee. Here’s a backstory, Eng Kor Cha Bi started as a small stall about two decades ago, and have just recently moved into a brick-and-mortar store.

The founder was a ‘house husband’ for two years after being retrenched from work due to the economic downturn. Being a Hokkien descendant with kuih background, he started this business with his family, and the rest is history.

Still preserving the kochabi taste, they offer a plethora of traditional Hokkien fried snacks. Their Golden Rice Patties, also known as ‘Moei Tay’ in Hokkien is a special treat.

Families back in the days will never throw away leftover rice. Instead, they’re deep-fried into these golden patties, hence the origin of this snack. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, they’re simple yet savoury.

It’s worth mentioning that their snacks are vegetarian, and some of the other must-try is the Yam Fritters (Oh Chua Tzi), BBQ Chicken Bun, Spring Rolls and more.

Foodies, drop by Eng Kor Cha Bi to try out these traditional Hokkien fried snacks! Don’t forget to tag your fried snacks buddies and enjoy. That’s all, take care and buh bye!
