  • Strict SOP must be in practice and full guideline will be announced tomorrow

Penangites, did you guys managed to catch the live announcement from our Chief Minister a while ago? In the announcement, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that dine-in will take place starting from Friday, the 15th of May.

Dine-In Will Be Allowed In Penang Starting From 15th May

A week ago, dine-ins weren’t allowed and Penangites must opt for deliveries or takeaways only. That is definitely one sure-fire way to keep everyone safe. But things will be taking a change starting from this Friday as Penang will reintroduce the dining-in policy. However, do keep in mind that this policy will take place in 2 phases.

The first phase will begin this Friday whereby eateries will need to comply with the strict standard operating procedure (SOP). An announcement will be made tomorrow regarding the SOPs after coordination between the local government Exco and the state health department.

Dine-in Penang now allowed

Additionally, for the first phase, only eateries in hotels, shopping malls, and fast-food chains will allow dine-in. As for eateries under other categories, dine-in is still not allowed and phase 2 will be to refine and finalize these decisions.

No dine-ins allowed at Penang eateries

Keep Penang A Green Zone

On a separate matter, all sports complexes, stadiums, and community centres are still closed. To catch the full announcement, click here. Despite being a green zone, Penang will increase the testing of COVID-19. So for now, stay safe and keep Penang a green zone.
