Genting Cruises Lines and Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) announced their plan to restart cruises in Penang. Star Cruises is set to sail on 13th May 2021 from Penang Port to Langkawi and Malacca. This operation is resumed to contribute to the growth of tourism in Penang that has been adversely affected due to Covid-19.
Cruises To Resume Sailing In Penang
The Star Pieces will first resume sailing. This 40,053 tonnage cruise ship can accommodate up to 1,600 passengers aboard. Furthermore, the voyage will coincide with the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri with two exciting itineraries.
Firstly, the Langkawi Escape. Malaysian guests aboard can enjoy a two-night cruise and explore the Jewel of Kedah within 10 hours of port time. The cruise will depart every Friday and Sunday from Penang Port.
Secondly, a one-night cruise at the busiest straits in the world, the Straits Of Malacca where passengers can discover various types of marine vessels. The cruise will depart from Penang Port every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Apart from aiding Malaysia’s tourism sectors, “The new Langkawi itineraries will provide Malaysians the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of cruising again,” said Ms Cynthia Lee, vice-president of Genting Cruise Lines in Malaysia.
