Yesterday, Malaysia hits a new high with 17,405 COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, closer to home, Penang recorded 760 new cases, also a new high. And just hours ago, Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP) has released an official statement on the temporary closure of Batu Lanchang Market.
Batu Lanchang Market Is Closed Until Further Notice
According to the statement, 7 traders tested positive hence the closure is to curb the further outbreak of COVID-19. In the statement, it was also mentioned that 68 high-risk individuals visited Batu Lanchang Market on 25th July 2021.

This closure will involve a total of 180 stalls, starting from 5 PM today (29th July 2021) until further notice. Thorough sanitization and disinfection will be carried out in the market.

Furthermore, MBPP will also be conducting COVID-19 risk evaluation alongside Jabatan Kesihatan Pulau Pinang on Batu Lanchang Market. Also, individuals categorized under ‘High Risk’ on the MySejahtera App are not allowed to visit public places like markets or food courts.
“Abide By The SOPs At All Times”, Warns MBPP
As a final note, MBPP has reminded the public to always abide by the SOPs at all times. Any premises that fail to abide by the SOPs will risk closure. Take care, Penangites. And always stay safe.
