As Pfizer Inc and Sinovac vaccines are given according to availability, AstraZeneca is offered on a voluntary basis. The second round of opt-in AstraZeneca registration will open on 23rd May 2021 to senior citizens in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sarawak and Johor.
AstraZeneca Second Round Slots Opens On 23rd May 2021
Previously, Malaysia received 268,800 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines for its first batch opt-in in the Klang Valley areas. According to Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, no serious issues arise since immunisation commenced on 5th May 2021. He added that the vaccines will be available in 5 states with the highest cases – Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sarawak and Johor.
Furthermore, the second round of AstraZeneca vaccine opt-in will open from 23rd May 2021 until 26th May 2021. However, priority will be given to senior citizens age 60 and above only. Doses that are not taken up by senior citizen after 26th May 2021 will be offered to those below 60. Do take note that pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are advised to take the Pfizer vaccine instead. Bookings can be made via website and community clinic outreach.
