Penang has been facing a spike of COVID-19 cases for the past week. Following the surge of cases in Bagan parliamentary constituency, Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) has ordered both Apollo Wet Market and Jalan Bunga Raya Hawker Complex to stop operations for a week, starting tomorrow.
Apollo Wet Market & Jalan Bunga Raya Hawker Complex To Close For a Week
According to New Straits Times, MBSP has ordered hawkers and traders at both precincts to temporarily cease operations from tomorrow onwards until the 5th of August 2021, or until further notice.
MBSP Mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said that this is a precautionary measure to prevent the further spread of the virus among hawkers, traders, as well as customers.
“The closure affects 184 hawkers and traders — 112 hawkers at the hawker complex and 72 traders at the morning market,” he said.
Besides that, Rozali also urged all affected personnel to go for Covid-19 screening at their nearest health facilities. Those who are still under quarantine are not allowed to carry out any business activities.
No Swab Test, No Resume of Business
When both market and hawker complex reopens, hawkers and traders who have not been swabbed will also be prohibited to resume their business. Only those with a negative test result and who have completed their quarantine are allowed to operate.
