I feel like there’s a need for me to say that this is the real OG in the game of banana leaf, I’m not even kidding! This place is pure awesomeness and has since established a reputation for themselves because of their super good and delightful banana leaf! That’s not even our favourite part, the sides they offer to go with the banana leaf – fried squid, fried bitter gourd to chicken masala are legit to-die-for as well!

For more than 50 years Veloo Villa stood and is still standing strong as one of the few restaurants in Penang that offers banana leaf rice, the favourite of South Indian delicacy of many. Alike South Indian cuisine, this restaurant offers a variety of roti such as thosai and naan bread. But the highlight of the shop would be their banana leaf rice. Exciting side dishes with rice drenched under the spiced variety of curries, you can’t miss this!

It’s a little tricky to locate this place, but don’t worry we’ll guide you, just follow close okay! This popular little Indian eatery is located on Acheen Street, facing Armenian Park. There is no signboard outside or anywhere of its name – just look out for its yellow walls and pink door- and window-frames on 143 Acheen Street. Though hidden, with heaps of rice over at the centrepiece drenched in curry and delicious sides, you’ll keep coming back for more!
