5-Star Penang Hotels Switch Gears And Open Hawker Stalls To Make Ends Meet

With no tourists around, Penang tourism players are currently in hot waters. Hotels especially have to think of a way to get by. And apparently, quite a number decided to be a little bit more creative and open hawker stalls instead. Now, you can get hotel grade dishes from the top chefs that took their skills to the street.

5 Star Hotel Chef Hawker Stalls Around Penang

As reported by FMT, since they are not allowed to accept visitors aside from government officials, frontliners, and essential service workers, hotels around Penang decided to take full advantage of the takeaway market. some are even willing to give free stays for regulars of the hawker stalls.

Setting Up Hawker Streets And Point Systems

At the moment, these hotels are turning their premises into a hawker market. JEN Penang, a five-star hotel near Komtar for example, has converted its front to a hawker street. Keen to fully focus on the food industry by selling food with prices that differ from normal hotel food prices. Ranging from only RM6 to RM8.50.

Another hotel in Batu Ferringhi, the Rasa Sayang Resort and Golden Sands Hotel, has turned their parking lot into a space for pop-up stalls. With food priced between RM5 and RM12. Additionally, they even set up a point system where customers can collect up to 350 points to earn a one-night free stay at the hotel.

On the other hand, G Hotel at Gurney Drive also applied the same strategy and offer a variety of high-end takeouts at RM15 net.
