Let’s start this year’s list with our all-time favourite Urban Daybreak, hands down one of the best brunch and breakfast cafes tucked in the heart of George Town. Open from 7.30am every day (yes, so early!), this OG cafe has been around since 2016 and is known for their Melbourne-inspired brunch culture. It’s the perfect place to spend the day with your furry friends while enjoying hearty all-day breakfast and freshly-brewed coffee in the mornings!

The best thing here? Fried Chicken Waffles! The waffles are made in house, and it’s topped with sunny-side up, baked beans and fried chicken that’s brined with buttermilk for 24 hours. Served with a side of maple mustard, it’s the perfect balance of sweet and savoury in one big satisfying plate!Â


Besides that, they also offer an extensive all-day brunch menu so there’s surely something for everyone! Some of their signatures are Pulled Pork Tartine, Big Breakfast with homemade sausage loaves and potato croquette, French Toast and more~

No doubt, Kenny Hills Bakers is one of the most hyped cafes that opened in January 2025! Originally from KL, their Bukit Tunku branch is always full of patrons and returning customers who love their pastries, mains and coffee. The Georgetown branch is situated at Upper Penang Road, in a beautiful two-storey heritage building that has a European-inspired interior. It’s a great place for an aesthetic brunch, lunch or dinner with family and friends. They offer mains like big breakfast, pastas, wood-fired pizzas and more, but most importantly, you cannot miss out on their best-selling Peach strudel!

Set in a spacious industrial looking shophouse, Norm Micro Roastery is a popular spot with lots of bright natural sunlight that shines through high glasshouse-style ceilings. Think good coffee, delicious mains and great desserts, it’s a great place for a Saturdate with besties, family and furry friends too. 4. The Founders Hutton


 

Located at Hutton Lane, The Founders is definitely one of the most aesthetic cafes in Penang featuring historical architecture with Balinese elements in every corner, plus an outdoor pool! This renowned cafe originates from Johor, where they’ve hosted the Malaysian Royal Family as well as international and local celebrities like Jay Chou, Mizz Nina and more. We personally recommend their “World’s Best Bagels”, classic cinnamon rolls and freshly-baked pastries~

As one of Penang’s pride and joy, Ang Ang’s Roastery is a familiar name that you’ll come across everywhere! They first started in Bukit Mertajam before expanding to Penang island, Butterworth, Simpang Ampat and Kulim, Kedah. This is a coffee spot that serves affordable daily coffee options, and they have many loyal customers coming over for breakfast sets too.


Most of their outlets are pretty aesthetic, but we recommend checking out the Tanjung Bungah branch for its spacious al-fresco area. Or, head over to the Bukit Mertajam outlet, they even their very own coffee library featuring almost 100 kinds of coffee beans!

Besides the elegant wooden decor, there’s even beautiful garden area and an angel fountain right at the entrance, how magnifique! If you already have plans to visit Penang Hill, then you should definitely drop by Kopi Hutan as well! It’s the highest cafe in Penang that’s located 700+ meters above sea level, PLUS hidden amidst a tropical rainforest. Just take the funicular train up to Penang Hill and you’ll find Jeeps ready to transport you to this hidden cafe. Next, we have Batu.pg which is another beautiful cafe by the sea with an uninterrupted scenic sea view! Located nearby Lava Mansion, it’s a great option for those who prefer somewhere that feels more private or secluded. Unlike the popular cafes near Batu Ferringhi Beach or Ferringhi Bay, this place has a quiet and serene vibe as it’s not much of a tourist area. Personally, we love to sit outdoors at the shady sundeck by the sea with our furry friends on the weekends!

Ferringhi Bay is no doubt one of the most popular places where you can enjoy Penang’s Batu Ferringhi beach to the fullest! There are many food options here, but Coco Nana is a popular cake house by the beach where you can enjoy homemade cakes, great coffee and beautiful sea view all at the same time. N.419 Senses Coffee is a popular coffee spot in Penang where you can try out China’s viral -86°C Dirty Latte! What’s so different about it? The coffee cups are extremely chilled, which creates a striking contrast in temperature when you enjoy the rich and creamy dirty latte. They went viral amidst a huge crisis previously, when the cafe was caught on fire and had to go through major refurbishing works. 20. Sweetbar Cafe






It’s no secret that Sweetbar is one of our favourite cafes in Penang that serves really good coffee and desserts! They are the winner of BOBC Battle of Barista Championship 2019 and ranked 4th in Malaysia National Brewers Cup 2022. The cafe used to be located right opposite Hin Bus Depot, but they’ve recently relocated to Lebuh Tye Sin. Their new place is much bigger and more spacious, plus they now roast their own coffee beans in house! Aside from coffee, we recommend trying their desserts (you will not regret it!) like Brownies, Banana Bread, Burnt Cheese Cake or Creme Brulee~Â

Though they’ve relocated to Lebuh Clarke (right opposite ae coffee Japanese-style teahouse serves authentic Japanese tea sourced from the owner’s family farm in Toyota, Japan! This place mainly focus on traditionally-made matcha and roasted teas as well as delicious desserts to pair them with. We personally love their Pistachio Matcha Latte with Pistachio Cloud and Matcha Swiss Roll~
