 1. Sunway Carnival

Located in the town centre of Seberang Jaya, Sunway Carnival is the main shopping mall that brings many youngsters and families together. Decorated with blooming cherry blossoms, gourd vineyard, and red lanterns, they’ve also got a traditional Chinese tower standing in the middle of the atrium. All worth it for an Instagram photo.

Apart from that, they’ve also got many stalls to stock up on CNY gifts and hampers. Located on the upper and lower ground floors, you can find snacks like JMM cookies to dried seafood products here too. And once you’ve ticked off your shopping list, hop on with your family and friends to their activity stations for traditional fan painting and calligraphy giveaway.

2. Queensbay Mall

Absorbing tourists and locals to its central atrium, Queensbay Mall never disappoint us with its festive decorations for Chinese New Year. Unlike any other ones you’ve seen before, this year, Queensbay Mall has transferred into a majestic Ocean Palace. One corner you see fan-shaped shells with a sparkly pearl in the middle and in the other corner, you spot a cute turtle that means ‘homecoming’ in Chinese.

It’s a little adventure for you to explore, but there’s actually more than just the decorations. Exciting events like creative mask changing, traditional drum to LED dragon dance performances will also pop up from now until February 2nd. Besides that, there’s also a lunar celebration bazaar located at the lower ground floor for you to complete your shopping list for CNY.

3. Gurney Plaza

Gurney Plaza is always packed with crowds, be it during festive seasons or on a normal weekend. This time, they’ve turned their Centre Atrium into the illuminating streets of Shanghai and it’s bringing back traditional essence into the air. Conventional ding ding tram that’s located next to the neon-lighted signages, it makes you wonder whether you’ve time-traveled back into the 1920s.

There’s also a luxurious boutique fashion-showing the beauty of traditional attires located just next to the tram. 4. Design Village

Our first shopping outlet in Penang, Design Village is joining the crowd for CNY decorations too. 5. Gurney Paragon

Aside from the main atrium, the walkway right in front of the atrium is also filled with Chinese New Year decorations. A vintage room that’s filled with an old Shanghainese women vibe, you’ll also spot an elegantly sewn Cheongsam here too. 6. Straits Quay

For those staying up North in the Penang island, you can’t forget about Straits Quay, right? As the first seafront retail marina in Penang, Straits Quay has turned into a red Chinese garden that you can wander around. With little bridges that hunch over ponds and willow trees that sway when the wind blows, it’s as if you’re in China.
