#4 Holy Guacamole

Nestled in the bustling street of Love Lane, Holy Guacamole seems like the center of attraction. With bright, daring skull wall paintings and upbeat music blasting outloud, this Mexican restaurant sounds like a deal for New Year Eve. Serving a range of Mexican fares which is rare in Penang, also some other mains that are more acceptable. We loved their tacos and burrito, but opt for their beef instead of chicken, they’re juicier. Toast to a better year ahead with your friends at Holy Guacamole this year.

#6 Let’s Meat

Our new favourite, Let’s Meat breaks the cafe norm in Penang by serving some great, authentic American dishes. In fact, the cafe is run by Malaysian-American duo since 2016. Expect some great pancakes, juicy burgers, Southern biscuits and sinful milkshakes. All done in American way, they even serve eggnog for the holiday season! Ring them if you’re planning to visit Let’s Meat during New Year Eve because they might be fully booked already.

One of the first hidden bar in Penang, the ever so famous ancient Chinese themed bar remains a hit in the center of Georgetown. If you’re looking for a place to chill with a bunch of friends during New Year Eve, Magazine 63 might be the perfect fit. Cozy and nostalgic, their drinks are above par, mixed by bartenders full of knowledge. They’re not just any drinks with fancy name and presentation with no standard. #9 BBQ Bar 串越时光

Cr: @1meih

A new addition to the food scene in Penang, BARBQ Bar is set all the way in Icon City. Their concept is unique, where you pick your desired ingredients, place it on the griller in front of you and let it grill on its own. Just like skewers but in a fancier way, you can even cook other stuff on top. They have a few bestsellers which are in-house recipe, a live band and comfortable seating. Try out this new place during New Year Eve in Penang and tell us what you think.

#10 Halab

Middle Eastern food for New Year Eve? Sounds like a plan. Nestled in was once Reggae Mansion, Halab took over and turned it into a sophisticated restaurant with contemporary furnishing. They offer a wide range of Middle Eastern cuisine as well as Western so there’s something for everyone. Their friendly, attentive service and food quality definitely justifies the price point. Halab might be the unconventional places to celebrate New Year Eve in Penang but make sure to call for reservation as they’re always jam packed.
