It’s been awhile since we reviewed a restaurant. Calling all foodie in Penang, meet Yuan Wei Restaurant 圆味粥面馆. Yuan Wei is a new Chinese restaurant located at Lebuh Cintra. And in today’s food guide, we’ll be telling you why you should visit them this week.
This is our second visit to Yuan Wei and it really didn’t disappoint.
Now let’s read what we’ve got at this lovely restaurant.
Yuan Wei Restaurant
Set in a spacious, air-conditioned shop lot along Lebuh Cintra, we think Yuan Wei is the place to go for family dining. The setting is very comfortable (clean and tidy), staffs are very attentive and the portion is indeed good for sharing. Trust me, your family will surely appreciate it.
Yuan Wei Restaurant’s Menu
What You Should Order At Yuan Wei
During our first visit, we ordered their signature tom yum noodle with fresh seafood. The signature bowl is a solid and delicious offering topped super fresh seafood (big prawn and squid, crab meat and mushroom for RM16.80.
The prawn is the highlight here. It’s huge, juicy and fresh!
Pro tip: you can request for extra spicy if you are adventurous enough to handle spicy. Thank us later!
Our next favourite dish is Deep Fried Grouper’s Fish (RM10.80).
The broth is excellent – fresh and rich in taste. The fish is well executed in my opinion, tasty and not oily for instance. You should order this if you can’t eat spicy.
Next, we got spicy and sour soup base’s noodle. Again, an excellent soup base boosted by mounds of minced meat, chewy fish ball and veggie beat the former with inviting flavours. Tediously prepared, the minced meat’s interpretation is tasty and especially enjoyable if you’re one who cringes at the thought of picking to eat those who prepared it like your mama only (we feel you).
Side Dishes of Yuan Wei
We ordered two side dishes to pair with our main course. First, we got ourselves a Chinese scrambled egg with bitter gourd (RM8). Believe me or not, this dish made our day! Highly recommended by us! When ladled over rice, the egg swims in a slightly intoxicating broth, which also wins points for the dish.
Bitter gourd contributes dietary fibre into our diet. It also contains a plant-based insulin known to lower blood sugar levels, as well as health-benefiting flavanoids such as ß-carotene, α-carotene, lutein, and zea-xanthin.
The next side dish is fried crispy fish (RM18). This is something to die for! The fish is crispy, delicious and some’s with fish’s egg. A perfect combination with rice as well as the noodle. We just have to warn you that it’s insanely addictive and will likely warrant another order!
