You Can Now Travel On Penang Bridge For Free With New ‘CAT Bridge’ in Penang

All the Penang drivers would understand the stress driving through the traffic jam during peak hours on Penang Bridge. Well, the government is currently trying out ‘CAT Bridge’ in Penang. This might be an alternative that could help reduce the amount of traffic on the bridge so read on for more information.

‘CAT Bridge’ Might Be The Solution To The Traffic Jams

The state government has recently announced that they are trying out CAT Bridge in Penang as an alternative to reduce the heavy traffic on Penang Bridge. Moreover, during this trial period, the bus rides will be free. Yes, you heard us correctly! Free bus rides from 1st September 2020 until 31 December 2020.

Besides that, this is also an encouragement from the state government to use more public transport which will not only help reduce the number of cars on the road but also to reduce our carbon footprints. Moreover, it is also suitable for those living on the island but working in the mainland and vice versa.

According to the Chief Minister of Penang, there will be a few hubs in Penang and Mainland that the CAT Bridge Penang will pick up the passengers from. However, most of the pickup points will be located at the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in Bayan Lepas. Besides that, the frequency of each buses will be an average of 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the traffic situation on the road.

There is an increase in the number of buses from before which brings us to a total of 18 buses compared to the 6 to 8 buses that were operating on this route. With the increase in the number of buses and frequency, the government hopes that factory workers are able to travel conveniently and comfortably.
