8. San Francisco Coffee
One of the new addition to the things to eat in Gurney Plaza, San Francisco took over the previous coffee chain, Doutor Coffee. Serving quality coffee at an affordable price, we tried it and it’s a thumbs up from us! The setting pulls out a sense of serenity with the blue and wood tones. The art on the wall resembles American vibe, which makes the store lively. Besides coffee, San Francisco also serves mains like sandwiches and pastas. The crowd has slowly noticed this coffee chain, it’s somehow packed during the weekend. We suggest to go during the weekday if you want a sense of peace.

9. Hoshino Coffee
A well-established restaurant in Japan, Hoshino Coffee has recently opened two new branches in Penang. First Queensbay Mall, then now Gurney Plaza. Since its opening, Hoshino Coffee has taken the town by storm. Apart from its popular Japanese coffee, Hoshino serves Japanese-Western inspired dishes. Skip the main, we’re focusing on their desserts. The french toast and souffle are both a pleasant to the eyes, and of course tummy. Fluffy-soft and eggy, the texture is just perfect. French toast paired with maple syrup is always fail-proof, not to mention topped with cream.

Yes the ever famous LIANG sandwich bar has opened in Gurney Plaza! Your favourite idol Jay Chou is the ambassador of this sandwich. If he’s the face of LIANG, then you know the sandwich is something. Different from the bread type sandwich, LIANG sticks to the tradition. It uses Chinese scallion pancake as the base and you could order your choice of fillings. Though it has been launched for quite a bit now, still, expect to queue. Note: please double confirm with the cashier about your choice of sauce as they’re quiet forgetful due to the overwhelming crowd.
