First we have 36°C that’s enough to burn us, then now haze?! The combination of both is what explains the weather in Penang right now. No joke it’s so stuffed and humid our clothes are all soaked in sweat.(Kudos to those who are still wearing hoodie or sweater, thumbs up for you guys) We did an article on desserts in Penang, but we think we need MORE so here it is, top 15 desserts in Penang to beat the heat.

Rollney
Opened its door to Penangites after Johorians, Rollney is a new addition to desserts in Penang that has a unique yet delicate sweet treat. Hungarian Chimney cakes are baked upon ordering, crispy and sweet on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Then topped with their soft serve that changes every two weeks, together with your favourite toppings. They even have 24K Gold soft serve that uses real, edible gold! So fancy. Our flavor picks? Matcha and Thai Tea, but they’re seasonal.

#3 Roots Dessert Bar
The cakes over here melts your heart before it melts in your mouth, the style and flavor of their cakes are unique and highly presentable. Tucked in Museum Hotel, the cafe is designed in muted tones yet simple and very comfortable. Their signature cake is the Watermelon Cake which would only be available during the weekend. Besides that, Roots is very adventurous, playing and mixing with different flavors. Nutella stuffed puff? Tofu Cheesecakes or even Pandan Creme Brûlée? #4 The Craftisan
Known for its hand-dripped coffee and homemade ice-cream, not to mention the ever famous sister cafe Soul Cafe that serves one of the best pastas in town. The Craftisan is a small yet cozy place for desserts in Penang that offers some great handcrafted ice cream, with a wide range of unique flavors. The white theme is so soothing to the eyes and their warm hospitality is a pleasant. Editor’s pick? Tie Guan Yin ice cream and Mr.Jack. Their cakes and yogurt smoothies are worth trying as well.

#5 Utterly
The ice-cream hunt never ends. Located at Gurney Paragon, Utterly serves premium handcrafted ice creams using only natural ingredients. Ever seen posts of Musang King durian topped on an ice cream? That’s utterly. They have the ever famous D24 durian ice cream, together with other unique flavors. The zhang zhang bao that took over the internet ? Utterly serves that too. Using pure dark chocolate, and paired with a scoop of Utterly ice cream. That’s pure indulgence.

#6 Wells Cafe
This unpretentious, simple cafe might be your new spot to get desserts in Penang. Known for their passion for coffees, you can now get a cup of coffee originated from Taiwan. We heard they serve some of the best filter coffee and waffles. If you’re a coffee lover, Wells is your cup of tea. Besides waffles, you can also get delectable cakes, especially crepe cakes and easy going drinks.

#7 Fuku Eatery& Desserts
Tucked in one of the most Instagrammable, Muji-like new hangout spot in Penang —Mano Plus. Fuku serves some great breakfast, comfort Japanese food and desserts. Their drinks are very eye-freshing and cool such as Kaiju, iced matcha topped with Milo powder and pearl. Get a slice of cake or their signature Creme Brûlée and have a conversation over coffee. Fuku is very cozy and soothing, and Mano Plus? Offering some unique tools and stationery, as well as handcrafted chocolates.

Previously known as Chai Diam Ma, a long-run cafe, it’s now taken over by Whisk. An artisan pastry cafe, Whisk is inspired by a blank canvas with limitless possibilities. The menu is pretty straight forward and simple, just like the place itself. Old and rundown, yet left a nostalgic charm behind. They serve a pretty wide range of drinks and in-house desserts. You can also get their toasts which looks simply delicious.

#9 15 Grams Coffee Bar
If you’re a first timer and go by the map, Google would bring you to Room 18 Hair Salon. Fret not, it’s the correct location. 15 Grams is nestled within the hair salon, small yet cozy. It is the perfect place for a cuppa and get a slice of cake to balance off the bitterness. If you’re a sweet tooth, then 15 Grams is your spot. They serve some great cakes, and presentation is a win.

A tranquil place for a cuppa and desserts, Dan is well hidden away from the hustle and bustle. Dan takes their coffee seriously, and they are the minority that serves single-origin coffee. Coffee lovers would definitely love this place. For beginners, pick tasting plate and you could sample different types of coffee. Not a fan of coffee? Matcha then with a slice of cake, their cakes are pretty good. Take out some time to relax yourself at this green-surrounded cafe.

The Australian-influenced cafe serves more than brunch and crafted coffees, though people usually stop-by for that. Their milkshakes, are often put aside, thinking it’s not worth the price. Well we’re here to tell you that they’re damn good. Their jar of sinful milkshakes are really think, dense and creamy. Kraffmen serves really unique flavors such as S’mores + Kitkat, Strawberry Cheesecake and more. Forget about diet and get sugar rush here at Kraffmen.

Being one of the oldest and most visited cafes in Penang, China House is a must-visit if you’re new to Penang. China House is an all-in-one building that’s perfect for everyone, with art, music, food and drinks. Be prepared to get eyegasm as they serve up to 50 different cakes daily. Now that is some big decisions to make. Don’t know which to pick? Simply ask the staffs for recommendation, and pair it with a cup of coffee. Your daily sugar can be fixed here, one of the best place for fail-proof desserts in Penang.

Tucked in Sunshine Square, Gusttimo specializes in offering Korean-inspired icy sweet treats. Some of them are like Bingsu and eye-pleasing Italian Gelato. Ever seen rose-shaped ice-cream cone on Instagram and dreamed of having it in Penang? Gusttimo made your dream came true. The flavors are sweet but not too overpowering and has the Gelato texture. Shia’s Granola offers healthy brunch that cuts the calories but maintain the deliciousness. The core product of Shia’s is their range of homemade Granola, from where she started. Shia’s has then introduced a range of creative but unconventional dishes, including a series of cooling Smoothie Bowls, Popsicle and even Almond Milk. The place is rather small because everything is built from scratch, stop by for a quick recharge. Shia’s place is definitely serves one of the healthiest desserts in Penang.

#15 Rabbit Softserve
Who doesn’t love a cup of creamy, cold icy desserts during the afternoon? At Rabbit, you can get premium handcrafted soft serves with weekly flavors. They have grown to have permanent pop-ups at two locations. Their flavors never failed to surprise us, editor’s favourite would be the Melon and Thai Milk Tea. They too serve exotic flavors such as Assam Black Tea, but everything’s seasonal. So be sure to check them out. Pair your cold delight with a cup of Uji Matcha and spend your day at Rabbit with your date.
