In Penang, we have countless street food that everyone loves. Ranging from Char Koay Teow to Penang Laksa, Penang is definitely a food paradise. A classic Malaysian breakfast would be a piece of Roti Canai and a cup of Teh Tarik. Since we’re talking about Roti Canai, did you guys know that over at Balik Pulau there’s a stall that sells crispy golden brown Roti Canai Sarang Burung? It’s none other than Roti Canai Abah at Sungai Rusa, Balik Pulau.
Roti Canai Sarang Burung Spotted At Balik Pulau Penang
Most of us are familiar with Roti Canai, Roti Telur, Roti Bawang, and more. These are the common Roti dishes Malaysians would order for breakfast. However, many of us may not recognize what’s Roti Canai Sarang Burung, and it may come across as a rather rare dish. So, we’re here to do our best and explain to you this local favourite breakfast option.
Roti Canai Sarang Burung is named after its shape which resembles a bird’s nest. Essentially, it’s made by shaping the dough into a circle, and then pan-grilled until golden brown. After that, eggs are cracked to fill up the circle. Of course, it doesn’t end here as you can also opt for the Roti Canai Sarang Burung Special (RM5) that comes with toppings.
Toppings such as scallions and minced meat will be added for the Special one while a plain and simple one is all you get for the Roti Canai Sarang Burung Biasa (RM3.60) Of course, some of us would enjoy the plain one as simplicity is sometimes the best option.
The next time you’re over at Balik Pulau for a day trip, do drop by at Roti Canai Abah at Sungai Rusa Balik Pulau for a fulfilling breakfast. Besides, what’s there not to love about a piece of unique Roti Canai that all Malaysians have come to love? Bye!
