From 10th to 14th January 2024, Penang will be facing major water disruption. This is to allow the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) to carry out repair work at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant to replace two leaking valves measuring 1,200mm. The upcoming water disruption is estimated to affect 590,000 consumers in Penang. For preparation purposes, PBAPP has released a full list of the areas that will be facing water cuts.
Penang Water Disruption From 10-14 January 2024
The areas that will be affected by the water supply disruption include a majority of Seberang Perai while on the island, the areas affected are Pulau Tikus, George Town, Jelutong, Gelugor, Bukit Jambul, Relau, Bayan Lepas, Bayan Baru, Batu Maung, Teluk Kumbar and Balik Pulau.

Air Itam, Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi, and Teluk Bahang will not be affected as these areas get water supply from the Air Itam Dam and Teluk Bahang Dam.
Water supply is expected to resume within 48 hours in areas closest to the water treatment plant while other areas may get supply resumption within 72 hours and end-of-the-line areas in 96 hours.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said PBAPP will rent 10 jumbo water tanks with a capacity of 20,000 to 30,000 liters to fill up all static tanks in public places. The Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will deploy tankers to deliver water according to the set schedule.
