Who would’ve thought that Penang has it’s own ‘7 world wonders’? The Government of Penang planned to promote the state as Malaysia’s top Domestic tourist destination. Especially since international borders remain closed. With the help of its colourful and record-breaking tourist destinations, this dream may not be farfetched after all!
Penang’s ‘7 World Wonders’
According to Yeoh Soon Hin, Chairman of the Committee on State Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, the seven world wonders include the world’s steepest tunnel track (Penang Hill), the world’s highest altitude stressed ribbon bridge (The Habitat), the world’s longest water slide awarded by Guinness World Record (Escape); world’s first butterfly and insect sanctuary (Entopia); world’s first tower curved skywalk (The Top), world’s highest ropes course challenge (The Gravityz), as well as the world’s first free-standing vertical drop slide (TechDome).

No introduction needed for Penang’s most iconic uphill ride. Located at Penang Hill, the funicular railway took thousands of travelers on a steep trip 833 meters above sea level every year. It is the only way to reach the hill (aside from hiking) and it is one of the oldest funicular railway systems in the world. The 5 minutes ride is all about scenic nature views and fresh forest air.

It is only natural for us to lean to domestic travel during the pandemic. The ‘7 world wonders’ is only a piece out of dozens other attractions that we have in Penang. We have more to explore in Balik Pulau and Seberang Perai so hopefully we will continue to make the best out of what we have. #JomPenang
