It has been months since the MCO was implemented in Malaysia. One thing we must admit is that it hasn’t just affected our lives, but our livelihoods have taken a toll too. In Penang, a hawker, Uncle Hoe has reached out for help from the public and his plea was returned with overwhelming support.
Penang Hawker, Uncle Hoe Reaches Out For Help In Desperate Times
61-year-old Uncle Hoe is one of the many hawkers in Bukit Mertajam, Penang whose business has taken a toll due to the pandemic. Consequently, he has been unable to pay his rent for 5-months and faces the inevitable risk of losing his accommodation.

Desperate, he made a call to a member of the Pusat Perkhidmatan Ahli Parlimen Bukit Mertajam, seeking help. However, he maintains a self-reliant attitude and seeks customers instead of direct monetary aid. This way, he can earn a living for himself by feeding the hungry yet still maintaining his candor.

After taking this matter to social media, the post has garnered 16,000 shares as of the time of writing. Kind-hearted Penangites then flocked over to lend Uncle Hoe a helping hand. Some even purchased 10-20 packets of food from Uncle.

His business has been blooming so much due to public support that some customers are willing to queue for hours! Once again, this shows the generosity and the kindheartedness of fellow Penangites. If we all come together to help out each other, nothing is a challenge we cannot overcome.

If you too, would like to support Uncle Hoe, kindly be patient with him. He is running a one-man-only business and he may be unable to cope with a high number of orders at one go.
Let’s Help One Another During Trying Times
In trying times like these, many are faced with desperation, so much so that they are willing to go the extra mile just to seek help. Let’s all try to help those in need as much as we could. Because sometimes, a tiny help may mean the world to them.
