TL;DR
- Fruit sellers in Penang can now apply for a permit to sell seasonal fruits like durian.
- They can either sell at a designated area or rent a vacant MBSP business lot.
- This will start on 1st May 2020.
In a blink of an eye, we are soon stepping into the month of May. This also brings us to the festive Durian season. While there are distinct differences between the people who love it or hate it, here’s a piece of news to all Penangite. Despite the MCO limiting the businesses in town, the Penang government is now allowing fruit sellers to apply for a permit and sell seasonal fruits like durian.
You Can Now Feast On Durian At Home During MCO
Durian is one of those unique fruits that leaves people with different feelings. With a distinct taste and creamy texture, it is undeniably the king of fruit. While many of us are craving for durian during the MCO, here’s a piece of news for you. Starting from May 1, the Penang Island (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Councils (MBSP) are now allowing fruit sellers to apply for a permit and sell fruits like durian!
During MCO, fruit sellers have been greatly impacted as a result of the closure of markets and roadside stalls. In consideration of this, MBPP and MBSP are now giving two options for them. By applying for a permit, they are now allowed to sell on locations that are allowed to operate during MCO. Otherwise, they can rent a vacant MBSP business lot in markets and food courts for a 3-month rental period.
Can’t Miss Out On This Year’s Durian Season
While the MCO has been changing our usual lifestyle, this is something that all durian lovers can’t miss. With that said, do keep in mind not to overeat! Additionally, if you’re a local fruit seller, do note that all applications will be processed within 3 working days. While successful applicants will be notified through email or phone. Anyways, we hope everyone stays safe and see you in the next post!
