Datuk Nicol David, 8-Time Squash World Champion Is Excited To Be Home In Penang

Back in 2019, Datuk Nicol David shocked the world by announcing her retirement after playing squash for Malaysia for more than 20 years. After retiring, the Queen of Squash has been filling her days travelling the world. From Germany to the United States of America, and now in Penang. Let’s see how the 8-time squash world champion feels coming back to her hometown.

The 8-Time World Champion

Born in Penang, Datuk Nicol David is the first daughter to a retired school teacher and a former footballer. She was scouted by Ee Phoeh Hoon that decided to train her as a national squash player for her perseverance and strong mental strength.

Datuk Nicol has already achieved so many at a tender age. Her biggest win during her early days was at the Antwerp’s World Junior Championships. There, she became the youngest female athlete to claim her ‘World Junior Champion’ status at the age of 15.

Furthermore, she was the first Asian to be ranked world number one for 108 consecutive weeks in squash and won the World Open eight-time. Recently, she was also named “The Greatest Athlete of All Times” in February.

She’s Back In Penang!

As you all know, Datuk Nicol is currently residing in Amsterdam, Netherlands and she has finally come back home to Penang after so long. Recently, she is seen to be enjoying her time around George Town yesterday. Nothing like us playing tourist in our hometown as it has probably been ages since she last visited Penang.

In her recent Facebook post, she told her followers about the beauty of Georgetown and how she will never get tired of walking around and taking the same photos. Many agreed with her. We, too, agree with her. With the wonderful savoury food and the vibrant atmosphere of Georgetown city, surely, she is glad to be home.
