1. Feng Wang Fu
Hotpot lovers, rejoice! Feng Wang Fu has just opened its very first Penang outlet at Gurney Paragon Mall. What’s unique is that FWF’s interior boasts classic China vibes with wooden furniture and lanterns, promising to take you back in time. As for the broth, you can pick from 5 options and over 90 types of ingredients. Really, it’s a feast like no other for all Mala addicts.

2. Roku
You heard of sushi, you heard of tacos. But what if these two are fused together? Yes, that’s right. Roku, a new spot in Bukit Mertajam serves up Sushi Tacos. The idea behind this is to use Japanese Nori to serve as Mexican Tacos. When you’re there, you will be stepping into a dimly lit space with a hint of industrial vibes. Order the signature Big Five and pair it with a cup of Iced Hojicha, and you’ll have the best weekend ever.

3. Nasi Kukus Tonggek
Nasi Kukus has always been a favourite among Malaysians. And this month, the infamous Nasi Kukus Tonggek will be opening 2 outlets in Penang. The first would be in Queensbay Mall on the 28th of April while the 2nd will be in Bukit Mertajam. Word has it that the Nasi Kukus here will leave you wanting more with its aromatic rice and perfectly spiced chicken drowned in curry sauce. Yum.

4. ICÖPI
Coming right up, another new spot to check out in Penang is ICÖPI. Tucked in the serene town of Sungai Jawi, this cafe has an industrial-themed interior with rattan furniture and concrete tables. Look out for their lip-smacking menu featuring rice bowls, desserts like Matchamisu as well as a cuppa like Caramel Latte and more.

5. Langit Senja Kopi
Next up, another new spot in Penang to visit this April is Langit Senja Kopi. Here’s a fun fact, the cafe is actually named after 2 rescued cats; Langit and Senja! As this is a Nusantara cafe, you can feast on Indonesian fares such as Nasi Ayam Penyet Nusantara, sip on coffee made from coffee beans imported from Indonesia together with Kek Lapis (a traditional Indonesian kuih). You’ll also find that Langit Senja Kopi requires a bit of a search due to the seemingly ordinary storefront of an old house.

6. Relish Cafe
Looking for a sweet after-meal treat? Just drop by at Relish Cafe for their line of homemade desserts such as brownies, French Choux, Tiramisu, and more. Of course, you can also have a satisfying meal here with their mains (pasta, burger), salad, soup, or snacks. Relish Cafe is a new kid on the block with a simple interior thus portraying a neighbourhood friendly yet cosy cafe.

7. Rattan Cafe
We all love good food and good food is always better if the environment is unique. This is where Rattan Cafe comes in. Serving your usual favourite Western Food, Rattan Cafe has an outdoor garden space that lets you enjoy some breeze while you feast on. The outdoor seats are made from rattan while the space is well-ventilated with potted greenery, making it an ideal place for a family dinner.

Ever wondered what the future will look like? Well, you may get a glimpse of the future if you drop by at Kara Kara. A futuristic cafe in the day (ZEN) transforms into a bar at night (YOTTA), making the entire place real lit. As for the menu, you can find options like Ondeh Ondeh Cake, Nike Neko Matcha S’mores Cookie and some signature beverages like Pong Crush or Coffee Soda.

9. Hi Kids Cafe
Coming right up in our list of new places in Penang is a cafe that may be a childhood dream come true for many. Hi Kids Cafe has a playground theme with a magical carousel, a slide, and even a ball pit! Boasting an all-white minimalist and clean interior, Hi Kids Cafe kinda reminds us of a cozy Korean cafe. That’s not all, living true to its playground theme, even the desserts here are inspired by cartoon characters. You can find adorable Korean sweet treats like cupcakes, cream puffs, cakes, and more.

We all know Fujiwara Tofu Shop from the iconic Initial D movie. In fact, did you know that the very first outlet is set to open in Subang Jaya real soon? Meanwhile, here in Penang, there’s a new Fujiwara BBQ shop where you can feast on an array of charcoal-grilled skewers from only RM3! Pick from Pork, Seafood, or Chicken options for the skewers. Alternatively, there’s also a range of burgers here so order up!
